Crossroads Lightsaber Tournament

Come join us on Saturday September 29th as 32 of the best saber fighters from Ohio, Michigan, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia, and Minnesota come together to battle for regional championship in Crossroads – part of The Saber Legion’s national tournament series.
The event is hosted locally by the TSL Ohio Charter and Columbus Saber Academy.

Initial fights start at 12:00pm, with our final elimination rounds starting at 3:00pm.  Spectators of all ages are welcome – this is a family friendly event!  Come watch the action and interact with our fighters between matches.
In addition to the tournament, guests will enjoy musical performances from some of our local members, as well as exhibition matches from members of our juniors team.
Doors open at 12:00pm, and admission is only $5 per person.

No, there are no age requirements. These adventures are appropriate for participants of all ages, from young kids to grandparents.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Each adventure will have a starting location that is either a parking lot or parking garage. You may use the recommended parking, but it is not required. You will need to show up to the location to begin the adventure.

Join us for the third annual Columbus CoffeeFest on September 30th at Ohio Village!
This year we are bringing back the CoffeeFest Tasting day bigger and better than ever! The tasting event will happen on September 30th. Join other Coffee Fans in the village to meet and greet with Ohio coffee shops and roasters, taste their brews, buy some beans or swag and shop our curated coffee themed local maker tent!

There are two 3 hours long ticketed time slots for you to choose from for $15: 11am-2pm and 3pm-6pm. A limited number of Early Bird tickets will be available for $25. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is plenty of free parking in Ohio History Connection Parking lot for this event!
What’s the refund policy?

Do Children Need Tickets to this event?
Children age 12 and under are free with an accompanying adult. Non-ticket holding children, will not receive a mug or any samples with the entrance.
Is this event accessible for Wheelchairs and Strollers?
We welcome all types of people to join us for Columbus CoffeeFest. The historic nature of the venue may cause some accessibility issues, depending on individual needs. Please see the following for a basic understanding of the venue limitations, please feel free to ask for clarification or additional information if need.
Majority of the Ohio Village is gravel and boardwalk style sidewalks, while they are accessible some may find it more difficult to maneuver. Some of the Village buildings have narrow doors ways and small waiting areas. Accessibility may be limited in some of these areas.

Welcome to the 3rd annual ‘Outdoor Inclusive Adventures!  Join us to get outdoors, get active, and PLAY! Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, YMCA of Central Ohio (ECRN+), along with American Kayaking Association are hosting a day of fun and inclusive activities for the whole family! Children and youth with disabilities, delays, or special needs, along with their family, friends, and neighbors are invited! We also welcome people of all abilities (those with and without special needs/disabilities) to Prairie Oaks Metro Park to join us for outdoor fun, physical activity, and networking!

Highlights and Activities Planned:

Kayaking – Trained volunteers and instructors from the American Kayaking Association. Scheduled boating slots will be every 30 min, and available to sign up on a first come, first served basis. You’re welcome to sign up for a slot later in the day, do other activities and return at your appointment time to reduce your waiting in line. NOTE: Priority scheduling will go to families of children with disabilities as this is the primary community this event is aiming to support. More paddling opportunities are offered year around with Metro Parks or AKA, please visit their website for details.

  • Fishing – Instruction will be provided by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. Fishing supplies are provided.
  • Meet Therapy horses from Stockhands Horses for Healing. Feed, lead, and interact!
  • Hot dog lunch and light refreshments from ECRN+ and partners
  • Family Hike and Creeking – Creeking supplies are provided. Hike and creeking on your own.
  • Live reptiles and amphibians from Metro Parks
  • Nature craft and interactive display from Metro Parks
  • Lawn games and sensory play
  • Touch a Truck and Meet ‘n’ Greet with local First Responders*- (Norwich Township Fire Department + Hilliard Division of Police (dependent on emergency calls)

Big Red Weekend 2018

Big Red Weekend is a special opportunity for all members of the extended Denison family to visit campus each fall. Join us on “the Hill” for what may be the most beautiful time of year in Granville.  We’ll be welcoming 1,000-plus alumni, parents, other family members, and friends to campus for this traditional celebration of all things Denison!

Among the many highlights are a presentation by President Weinberg about Denison’s recent successes and what’s new and exciting at the college, career networking opportunities sponsored by the Knowlton Center, numerous varsity and club sport contests, a cappella and musical theatre concerts, programs about new curricular and co-curricular initiatives at Denison, a BBQ lunch on the campus common and a food truck dinner by the stadium, and much, much more!

Denison Ice Hockey Alumni Weekend

Join former team members and Coach Jeff German for a weekend of alumni drafts, games, and festivities. The Denison Ice Hockey Alumni Weekend is back again and coincides with Big Red Weekend on September 28-30, 2018.

This is your chance to assist in strengthening the program as they take the ice for the first time in the CHE — College Hockey East. So grab your gear, buy that new $400 stick, and make plans to join your former teammates back in Granville.

Art Your Way Gallery Show,”

Art Your Way, a project of You Will Rise, is hosting their first gallery show at Wild Goose Creative this September 30th 12-2PM. This collection of work will highlight the mentor based workshops where high school students worked one-on-one with a creative professional in their field.

Students from the workshops will be present to talk about their work and awards will be given at 2:30 pm.

Join us for POWER: Creative Control Fest 7 and learn about how creatives like you are helping change the course in expanding industries! Creative Control Fest is a multi-day creative conference that centers creatives of color who are a part of the growing creative class. Through presentations, workshops, networking and other annual events, CCF participants gain exposure, make job referrals, and galvanize resources while developing an important sense of belonging to the Midwestern creative class.

This year’s conference is headlined by Writer and Hip-Hop Feminist Joan Morgan (author of When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost, She Begat This: Twenty Years of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) and Kim Blackwell (brand expert and CEO of PMM Promotions) along with a strong cast of creatives, entrepreneurs, and thinkers.

“Our understanding of power is often limited to politicians or leaders of institutions,” says co-founder Corey Favor. “We want the audiences with which we engage to understand their power and how they can use it to make a lasting impact.”

CCF and event partners will engage attendees using the framework of POWER with the Artist Production Development Workshop Series (APDW) facilitated by Suzan Bradford, General Manager of the Lincoln Theatre. The workshops focus on issues of production planning, staging, marketing and advertising, and legalities that performing artists will likely encounter in their respective industries. The weekend will also include wellness activities craftily curated for student and professional creatives from all disciplines.

The CCF7: POWER partners include: Greater Columbus Arts Council, Columbus Foundation, Columbus College of Art and Design, Lincoln Theatre Association, Upper Cup Coffee Co., Blockfort Gallery and Studios, and Artfluential.


 

In 2012, Creative Columbus conducted a study of the creative industries in Columbus, Ohio. They found that Columbus was home to more than 50,000 painters, writers, designers, and creatives who earned more than $3 billion in revenues. Since that study, there has been quite a bit of attention paid to developing a more diverse and inclusive creative class. However, despite our best efforts, women are less likely to report seeing someone who looks like them in their creative fields, while creatives of color are more likely to report experiencing barriers to access and necessary tools.

But numbers don’t lie. Three of every four creatives agree that they won’t work for a company that they believe doesn’t take diversity seriously. Nine out of ten creatives say a diverse workforce should be a priority for the creative industry. That’s power. And while creative industries are changing, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Join Us!

Welcome to the 3rd annual ‘Outdoor Inclusive Adventures!’  #OIA18

Join us to get outdoors, get active, and PLAY! Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, YMCA of Central Ohio (ECRN+), along with American Kayaking Association are hosting a day of fun and inclusive activities for the whole family! Children and youth with disabilities, delays, or special needs, along with their family, friends, and neighbors are invited! We also welcome people of all abilities (those with and without special needs/disabilities) to Prairie Oaks Metro Park to join us for outdoor fun, physical activity, and networking!

 

Highlights and Activities Planned:

 

  • Kayaking – Trained volunteers and instructors from the American Kayaking Association. Scheduled boating slots will be every 30 min, and available to sign up on a first come, first served basis. You’re welcome to sign up for a slot later in the day, do other activities and return at your appointment time to reduce your waiting in line. NOTE: Priority scheduling will go to families of children with disabilities as this is the primary community this event is aiming to support. More paddling opportunities are offered year around with Metro Parks or AKA, please visit their website for details.
  • Fishing – Instruction will be provided by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. Fishing supplies are provided.
  • Meet Therapy horses from Stockhands Horses for Healing. Feed, lead, and interact!
  • Hot dog lunch and light refreshments from ECRN+ and partners
  • Family Hike and Creeking – Creeking supplies are provided. Hike and creeking on your own. 
  • Live reptiles and amphibians from Metro Parks
  • Nature craft and interactive display from Metro Parks
  • Lawn games and sensory play
  • Touch a Truck and Meet ‘n’ Greet with local First Responders*-  (Norwich Township Fire Department + Hilliard Division of Police (dependent on emergency calls)
  • Character Meet ‘n’ Greet* with The Royals Project* (hours TBA) 
  • A Gaga Pit, Giant Connect Four, and more fun provided by the YMCA Fun Factory!

Driving Directions:
From I-270, take I-70 west to the West Jefferson/Plain City exit. Turn right onto Plain City-Georgesville Road/State Route 142. Go about 2.25 miles to Lucas Road (passing the main park entrance) and turn right. Go across Big Darby Creek and turn right at the stop sign onto Amity Road. Entrance is about 0.5 miles on right.


NOTES & REMINDERS

• No experience is required! Activity supplies will be provided.

• Parents/Guardians must stay with their child (or adult in need of care) at all times. We encourage family participation!

• In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. Many individual activities are weather dependent. Please check facebook.com/ECRNplus (you don’t need to have a facebook profile to see our public posts) or call 614.835.6073 the day of the event for the latest updates.

• We recommend everyone wear sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat)

• Due to the health and safety of our participants, this event is strictly a NO SMOKING event.

• Restrooms are available but do not have running water.

• Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes ideal for the weather

• If Canoeing/Kayaking or Creeking, please wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet along with a change of clothes and a towel, as you desire.

• This is an outdoor event and you will need to either bring/wear bug spray. Make sure you do tick checks as well.

• OIA 18 is an “”open-house”” style format. Feel free to arrive and leave on a schedule that best fits your family!

• The park does NOT have running water. Please bring what you need (preferably in a reusable bottle).
