White Cane Safety Day

White Cane Safety Day – October 15th

A national holiday since 1964, the day celebrates the achievements of persons who are blind or visually impaired. The “white cane” portion of the name is to recognize that the cane as an important symbol of blindness and independence.

In 2011, President Barack Obama also used the name of Blind Americans Equality Day.
